Biotec 2027 will take place from 2 to 5 February at the University of Córdoba
The 20th Congress of the Spanish Society for Biotechnology – Biotec 2027 has been brought forward from its usual dates and will take place from 2 to 5 February 2027 at the Rector’s Office of the University of Córdoba (UCO). The organisation of the congress is being coordinated by Professor Carmen Michán Doña, a professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the UCO and a member of the research group ‘Molecular Biology of Stress Response Mechanisms’, and by Enrique Martínez Force, a CSIC research professor at the Instituto de la Grasa in Seville and coordinator of the research group on the Genetics and Biochemistry of Seed Lipids.
The Biotec conferences, organised by our society since 1986, are the forum where, every two years, researchers and professionals from the biotechnology sector come together to present the results of our research and establish new contacts and collaborations, both amongst colleagues in academia and with representatives from various industrial sectors and government bodies. The conference also includes an exhibition area, where companies showcase the latest developments in laboratory equipment and materials relevant to our field.
The SEBiot Conference returns to Andalusia following Biotec 2002 (Seville) and Biotec 2008 (Granada). On this occasion, we are hosted by the University of Córdoba (UCO), whose invaluable support we would like to acknowledge from this platform.
As in previous years, the scientific programme for 2027 will include topics of broad interest, to be presented both in plenary lectures—featuring renowned national and international experts as speakers—and in thematic sessions, where updates will be presented by research groups working day-to-day in the fields covered by SEBiot’s various scientific sections. We are also organising several round-table discussions on cross-cutting topics of interest to the biotechnology sector.
The structure of the Congress will be similar to that of previous editions. On the morning of Tuesday 2 February, the programme will begin with a new series of seminars on omics technologies and on biotechnological processes and applied biocatalysis, which were so well received in 2025. From 4.00 pm, registration will open, followed by the official opening of the Congress, the inaugural plenary lecture and a welcome reception for participants. Biotec 2027 will run until midday on Friday 5 February, when the closing ceremony will take place following the final plenary lecture.
We invite you to save these dates from now and look forward to living up to the high standards of organisation and scientific quality set by recent SEBiot congresses. You will find further information on the Congress website.
Welcome to Biotec 2027!
