3rd European Workshop on Biotechnology: Biobased Materials
The European Federation of Biotechnology (EFB) and its Biobased Materials Division are organising the next edition of the European Workshop on Biotechnology: Biobased Materials, which will take place in Kraków, Poland, from 1–5 February 2027.
The workshop will bring together researchers, academics, industry professionals and early-career scientists to explore the latest advances in the development and application of biobased materials, with a strong focus on biotechnology-driven solutions for a sustainable future.
Participants will explore key topics shaping the future of the biobased materials sector, including:
- Biopolymers and bioplastics
- Biotechnology approaches for sustainable material production
- Bioprocess development and optimisation
- Processing, functionalisation and applications of biobased materials
- Biodegradation and end-of-life strategies
- Sustainability assessment and life cycle approaches
- Circular bioeconomy concepts and industrial implementation
- Emerging technologies and innovative applications of biobased materials
The interactive format of the workshop will encourage scientific discussion, interdisciplinary exchange and networking among participants from academia and industry. Practical laboratory sessions will provide the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art techniques under the guidance of internationally recognised experts.
The workshop is designed for PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, academic scientists and professionals interested in biotechnology, materials science and sustainable innovation.
